These small projects, not renovations or overhauls, were performed with a view to preventative maintenance. Though its hard to see in photographs, Mayer Building Company repaired, cleaned-up, replaced and freshened a myriad of exterior elements to a handful of historic buildings. We replaced wood rot, corrected gutters, re-hung shutters, patched louvers and deckboards, scraped and painted iron, trim, stucco. We re-pointed crumbling mortar with the VCC mortar mix, corrected flashings, re-set slate roof tiles and terra cotta ridge caps, tidied up systems lines like wiring and conduits and replaced glass and glazing putty. Though these items do not stand-out like full renovations would in the old French Quarter, they are extremely important nonetheless. Combined, items like these add life to the aging structures, protect them from exponential deterioration, keep buildings in compliance with the historic society and certainly improve the value of the buildings.
