Advanotech at UNO

Advanotech’s website starts with this: Electric vehicles haven’t been able to overcome the burden of cost versus range limitations. It then goes on to explain about “making a battery work with Silicon.” Certainly bold scientific progress needs a place to experiment, work and discover. With the Linfield Hunter Junius design team, Mayer Building Company converted […]

4901 Magazine Street

In July, Mayer Building Company completed the work at 4901-03 Magazine Street. The major renovation on the corner of Magazine and Upperline consisted of converting an unused, decrepit Victorian 4plex into a stunning mixed-used rehabilitation. Upstairs there are two apartments for rent with balconies and galleries that face the parade route. Downstairs is a new office space customized to the real estate company moving in. We salvaged the floors, doors, baseboards, brickworks, and hardware (when possible). The major challenge of this project included prosecuting this salvage and re-use effort at the same time as abiding by Historic Tax Credit requirements (federal and state) the local Historic District Landmarks Commission requirements, the City of New Orleans Safety & Permits requirements,m the Louisiana State Fire Marshal requirements and all the International Building Codes governing the same. Oh yeah, and we had to fit in air-conditioning, ADA and life safety requirements and new plumbing and electrical. Whew.

St. Charles Avenue Condo Renovation

In the fall of 2017, MBC completed a renovation of a 2000 sf residence on the 11th floor of the Carol on St. Charles Avenue. The project included renovation of three bathrooms, a kitchen, a laundry room and all the bedrooms and living space. Though it was challenging to work in a large occupied complex, Mayer Building Company did our best to keep our footprint light. We protected the common areas near by the work-site, remained approachable and amenable to the building’s and its occupants’ requests. We were quiet and fast. Notable features included high-end custom showers and space-saving layout upgrades.Photos by Anne Finney.
