This winter MBC completed a simple, clean restoration of a shotgun double in the heart of Mid City. We restored the front facade and replace the rest of the exterior: cementious siding, new architectural shingle roof and decking and new clad windows. We rehabilitated this building with much of the of the historic character left in place. We salvaged all doors, mantels, hearths, transoms, floors, rim locks, attic clerestory window and much of the trim. Mayer Building Company completed a project for HGTV this summer which became the “Big Easy Reno” HGTV show pilot with Holly Baker. Designed by our favorite interior designer firm Logan Killen Interiors, the work included a new custom kitchen, new built-in millwork in the foyer and several exterior updates.

In the fall of 2015, Mayer Building Company completed a small finishes project for a big aesthetic impact. This project included sanding the wood floors and coating them in grey paint and high gloss polyurethane, swapping a boring black countertop for a vast expanse of brilliant white marble, and tiling a great deal of the kitchen walls for a statement backsplash with Walker Zanger tile.

In a quaint and quiet part of Algiers, Mayer Building Company completed a series of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and finish improvements for a real estate investor. The interior of this ranch house was modified and improved to include new lighting, a new open floor plan concept and new windows throughout. Part of our task, as General Contractor, was to ensure bank compliance with a 203K program and city compliance. In a townhouse on Royal Street, Mayer Building Company completed a project for property manager and client that included maintenance, upgrades and repairs to a very natty single family home. We installed a new air conditioning system for the carriage house suites, completed re-glazing of all courtyard glass, added historically compliant board & batten shutters, patched in some antique pine floors and spiffed up several rooms with a high end paint job.

In November 2014, Mayer Building Company delivered select interior improvements to a mental health clinic in Algiers. The work, which was performed after hours included several new first class millwork stations, new flooring, modification of a conference/group flex room, installation of new doors, window treatment, and paintworks. Perhaps “camelback” as a term sells this project short. In September, MBC completed an expansive addition and second story to this home Uptown. New foundations and structural assemblies were required to convert this modest single into the owner’s grand 2-story vision. The project included 4 and 1/2 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, a wide open garden room overlooking a covered 14 x 30 covered porch, a chef’s kitchen, bar, jumpseat office nook, closets-for-days and new fireplace with custom hearth and mantle.
