Mid City Home Restoration

n April, Mayer Building Company completed the major overhaul that was this Mid City home renovation project. In this over-sized double, we created a grand single family home. While all systems are new: (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, insulation, windows, appliances, hardware), the beauty of this project was in re-purposing many of its original features.

Mayer Building Company Office

During December of 2014, Mayer Building Company completed the full restoration and code updates to 1000 North Broad Street in on the border of the Treme and Esplanade Ridge neighborhoods. This building is now our headquarters. It also houses two commercial tenants. The work included storefront and facade restoration, new security, fire alarm, IT, and MEP systems. We salvaged old floors and the mid-century bathroom tiles. We installed new lights and new finishes inside and out. We dressed the facade with louvered Bahama shutters and a roof deck with custom iron rails.

Interior Improvements at Clinic

In November 2014, Mayer Building Company delivered select interior improvements to a mental health clinic in Algiers. The work, which was performed after hours included several new first class millwork stations, new flooring, modification of a conference/group flex room, installation of new doors, window treatment, and paintworks. Outside the building, we installed utility services for a mobile unit.

Custom Specialty Bamboo Fence

In December 2014, Mayer Building Company delivered a Cadillac of a fence on old Pritchard Place. Unlike a regular fence with runners and fence boards, we fabricated full panels of red hardwood and bamboo to create 250 linear feet of fence, three gates, two automatic double gate openers. We prepared and stained both sides of the assembly.

Slate Roof Replacement

On St. Philip Street, downtown, Mayer Building Company completed a much needed roof replacement on this c. 1825, historic home. We installed a natural slate roof and salvaged the old ridge caps. The work was performed quickly and safely and in accordance with the Vieux Carre Commission (as always). The new roof, apparent to pedestrians, really rejuvenates this great old masonry Creole Cottage.

Common Area Paintworks

In November 2014, Mayer Building Company completed fresh paintworks in the common area of a French Quarter apartment building. Maintenance in common areas in downtown buildings are often overlooked. This particular condo association has a beautiful common area and our clean and simple paint job helps to keep it that way.

Uptown Addition and Camelback

Perhaps “camelback” as a term sells this project short. In September, MBC completed an expansive addition and second story to this home Uptown. New foundations and structural assemblies were required to convert this modest single into the owner’s grand 2-story vision. The project included 4 and 1/2 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, a wide open garden room overlooking a covered 14 x 30 covered porch, a chef’s kitchen, bar, jumpseat office nook, closets-for-days and new fireplace with custom hearth and mantle. Other features include painted concrete tiles, custom built iron rails, smartphone HVAC controls, antique wood floors, restored cypress columns, hidden doors, and energy efficient windows.

In July 2014, Mayer Building Company completed a new restaurant / bar on Oak Street. Ale boats a new stainless steel commercial kitchen, reclaimed heart pine clad walls, a “leathered” granite bar, a new walk-cooler keg system which feeds over 30 taps, a new brick patio shared with Oak Wine Bar.

Master Suite Renovation

On grand Audubon Boulevard, MBC completed a master suite renovation that included fabricating and installing a new built-in entertainment center in the bedroom, replacing the master bathroom floor and shower alcove with new Crema Marfil and decorative glass accents, new plumbing fitting and freshening the paint.
